Take a Probiotic

Did you know nearly 80% of your immune system is in your gut? If you can boost your gut health, it will help fight off infections. Just make sure you use a good quality multi-strain probiotic with a minimum of 20 billion units.

Vitamin D

Taking high quality Vitamin D is a powerful immune system booster. Most experts recommend taking 1,000 IU for every 40 lbs. of body weight (ex. 200 lbs. male would take 5,000 IU). This is especially important in the winter months when we don’t see the sun as often- Without the sun our body cannot naturally produce Vitamin D like it does when we’re exposed to sunshine. Pair this with Vitamin K helps ensure safe and proper absorption.

Exercise

Get that blood pumping! This makes it easier for your body to pump around antibodies to fight any infection. Exercise also relieves stress and prevents the secretion of cortisol (stress hormone that lowers immune function). All in all, exercise is good for you- on multiple levels! So get to that spin class or go lift some weights!

Get A Good Night’s Rest

Ideally you want 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Everyone is different, but having adequate sleep allow your body to rest and recover from daily activities.

The “old school” way of saltine crackers and sprite are long gone. We know that sugar is bad for us, but sugar in larger quantities also is going to weaken the immune system. So, avoid the processed food when you’re not feeling well (actually, avoid it all the time)!

Wash Your Hands

Seriously- This is such a simple way to help keep you and people around you healthy. Make sure to scrub your hands with soap and water. While you’re at it sing happy birthday twice before you stop. This allows enough time to kill any bacteria or viruses.
